Teresa’s been on her own personal healing journey for over a decade. By painting the many traditional stories her Elders passed down to her – stories about Noongar lore, country, culture and Kin - Teresa is on a journey to heal and reconnect.

Incorporating her own inspiring, contemporary life-journey into each artwork, Teresa is creating a growing collection of modern, truly authentic works; a series of canvases embedded with cultural connection and spiritual meaning. Teresa’s Noongar Artist name is Beelya Yorg – River Woman, and the traditional name of her great grandmother known as Beelya.

“When I'm painting, I often think of my Dad (RIP) who passed in 2016…. I think about places we’ve been and stories his shared over the years. At the beginning of most paintings, my heart is heavy, and my head is spinning; painting brings me back to the here and now if it's crying. But with every stroke and dot with my paint brush, I feel the hurt and pain release and transfers into my artwork. By the end of the painting, my story is expressed with happy thoughts. The beautiful bright colours bring me out of sadness and into a future full of hope”.
